Library Overview and Guidelines

Welcome!  New Life Theological Seminary is proud of its library.  Located in the former church sanctuary, it is the heart of academic formation, research, and student collaboration on the campus.  The library boasts 20,000 print volumes, biblical research software, 60 periodicals and magazines, and a subscription to the ATLA database.  The Library Handbook states the mission, services, and policies of the library. Students and others who use the library should consult the handbook to become acquainted with library services and policies.  Persons failing to abide by the library policies may lose library privileges.

NLTS students may also check out materials from other seminary libraries in the Charlotte region at no cost.  New Life is a member of the Carolinas Theological Library Consortium (CTLC).  Students using consortium libraries must abide by all guidelines of the member institution.  For addresses and more information about CTLC libraries, click this link.

NLTS Library primarily serves students, faculty, and staff of the seminary.  Students and employees may use their NLTS badges to check out library materials. Local pastors and missionaries may also access library materials for a nominal fee.  If you are a local pastor/missionary interested in obtaining library privileges, please contact the library at 704-334-6882, ext 111.

Online Resources

Students with a library ID and a proper password may sign onto the ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials.  This is an online database of specialized resources to  perform the seminary-level of research demanded by the faculty.  For the password and assistance in navigating the database, ask a library staff member.

NLTS students are strongly encourage to get a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library (CML) library card to access NC LIVE.  The CML library card is FREE for all students in Mecklenburg County educational institutions.  A CML library card grants students access to NC LIVE, as well as 1+ million print titles in Charlotte area libraries.  NC LIVE is a consortium of public and private libraries in NC that pool together resources to provide access to broad spectrum of online databases and resources.  There students can find resources for college-level research, encyclopedias, magazines, newspapers, e-books, and electronic media.

Delicious is a 'social bookmarking site' that allows users to create "webliographies"-lists of websites organized by category.  NLTS Library has a Delicious account that can be accessed by clicking on the Delicious hyperlink.  Students are encouraged to create their own free Delicious page where they can compile a "webliography" and contribute sites to the library's account.

Donations

Much of our collection has been donated from pastors and seminary professors.  We are soliciting donations of books, periodicals, and audio/video materials.  The library would especially appreciate cash donations to purchase materials and volunteers wishing to assist library staff with seasonal projects.  New Life Theological Seminary is a 501(c)3 and donations are tax-deductible.  If you are in the Charlotte area, the library staff would be pleased to arrange a pick-up at your home or business.  Please contact Seth Allen (sallen@nlts.edu) if you would like to donate to NTLS Library.
